 1. Make Business Vision.

  • Overview. The first step is to outline an ambitious strategy that includes achievable goals of your business and specifies deadlines. Such a strategy will be your business vision. It should describe high-level methods for reaching targeted customers and producing expected benefits. Answering the following below questions will help you develop your business vision.
  • What’s the purpose of running my business?
  • How will I reach my expectations in the long run?
  • Where’s the business now?
  • Where do I want it to be?
  • Is there any gap between my expectations and current results?
  • What will I do to reach targeted customers?
  • What skills are required for my staff to redesign and improve business processes?

2.  Model Existing Processes.

  • Overview. Your next step is to document processes and workflows existing in your business and create a model. This model will be based on such information as strengths and weaknesses of the business, process bottlenecks and discontinuity, benefits, costs. The model will help you identify what new or revised IT systems will be helpful and what skills and competencies will be required to introduce such systems. Here’re several suggestions on this point.
  • Analyze existing processes and detect performance gaps (if any).
  • Make a comparison matrix that includes efficient and inefficient practices.
  • Identify possible IT solutions that can help you improve existing processes and remove the gaps.

3. Redesign Processes.

  • Overview. By using the business vision and model of existing processes you can start identifying needs of your targeted customers and redesigning processes. Your goal should be to create a new framework for managing business processes according to the needs. Here’re some suggestions on this point.
  • Define processes that are required for producing key business outcomes.
  • Examine these processes and describe how they interrelate.
  • Identify all the inputs (human resources, skills and competences, equipment, raw materials, IT support) required for starting and running each of the processes.
  • Define infrastructure elements required to redesign the processes.
  • Define ways to improve customer service and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Involve personnel in the redesign procedure.
  • Establish new control systems.

4.  Establish IT Support.

  • Overview. The greatest way to establish IT support is to involve end-users in testing and exploiting new IT systems and solutions – this will be your next step. When your customers can try a new technology they get a valued experience and provide you with valued information on whether the tested technology is good and sufficient.   • New information technology systems should be designed and introduced to support all the changes of existing business processes.
  • IT procedures should be easily understood, administered and exploited by your customers.
  • The customers should be involved in the redesign procedure so they can operate and test new IT systems before the procedure is accomplished.
  • IT staff should help your customers to achieve individual and group goals.

5.  Plan for Implementation.
