Project Request Checklist For many organizations it is preferable to have some controls with regard to their new projects, especially when they have to undertake a lot of projects in parallel. Such organizations need a process that allows requesting for a new project before making a decision of project approval and planning.   1. Context Analysis.
    • Analyze your operational environment to define strategic goals and objectives your company wants to reach.
    • Be sure each of the goals/objectives is relevant to the company’s vision and mission.
    • Identify how strategic goals/objectives relate to each other and whether they can be grouped into categories by certain attributes (e.g. execution time, benefits, scope, others).
    • Review business activity status to determine key problems the company faces.
    • Perform an environmental analysis to identify and determine factors that cause the problems.
    • Identify options that allow solving the problems, through mitigating negative impact of the factors.
    • Develop a solution proposal document that includes all solution options identified.
  2. Feasibility Analysis.
    • Estimate implementation costs per solution.
    • Estimate non-financial and human resources required per solution.
    • Identify which of the solutions is closest to the company’s goals and objectives.
    • Assess risks and determine success rate pre solution.
    • Perform a feasibility study to determine the most feasible and viable solution.
    • Identify and measure cost-effectiveness per solution.
    • Choose the most preferable solution, using the data obtained at the previous steps.
    • State about the need to run a project that implements the chosen (most feasible and cost-effective) solution.
  3. Project Organization.
    • Identify people and organizations (stakeholders) involved in or concerned by your project.
    • Identify how stakeholders will influence the project throughout its life-cycle.
    • Create an organizational chart that includes roles and responsibilities of stakeholders.
    • Develop a governance structure that explains a mechanism for project oversight and strategic development.
    • Create a work decomposition chart that explains what kind of work is required for performing the project.
    • Design a team composition chart that includes names of people involved in the project team.
  4. Project Request
    • Develop a project request form that includes a description of the project and its organization (incl. feasibility study results).
    • Send the document to the company’s senior management, or to the project sponsor.
    • Receive and review the sponsor’s reply.
    • Consider and follow any suggestions or requirements left by the sponsor.
