"...This is an excellent program. I'm so glad that I stumbled on to this when researching for task management programs. Very low learning curv, quite flexible, and the price is right. Tried at least 20 other programs, either too complicated, too expensive, or poor documentation..."

  1.  Preparing for the Event.
    • Decide on date and time for your garage sale.
    • Collect items you and your family no longer need in your house.
    • Clean those items and prepare them for the sale.
    • Be sure the items are not broken or damaged so they don’t pose any threat to potential buyers.
    • Ask your neighbors and friends for donation items to sell (perhaps they don’t want to host their own yard sales so they may be glad to give you unnecessary items).
    • Consider encouraging your friends and neighbors to participate in your garage sale (the more garage sales are close to your own sale, the more shopping traffic you get).
    • Check if you need to get a license for your sale.
    • Learn community rules and find out if there are some other requirements you have to meet.
  2. Advertizing the Event.
    • Consider paying your local radio station for a voice advertisement message.
    • Find out when and where it’s permitted to post yard sale signs.
    • Use community bulletin boards, local newspapers, Penny Saver, and garage sale websites for advertizing.
    • Create catchy phrases for your advertisement messages (for example "Anything but Ordinary!", "Multiple Family!", "The Big Sale coming soon!").
    • Add the phrase "Rain or Shine" to your message to let potential shoppers know you’re going to organize your garage sale in any case (even the whether is bad).
  3. Displaying Items.
    • Use your tables to display items for sale.
    • If you don’t have tables, ask your friends and neighbors whether they can borrow tables for your sale garage.
    • Attach labels to all items you’re going to sell.
    • Don’t forget to mark your tables "Not for sale" when displaying your items.
    • Use clothing racks to display clothing items.
    • If you don’t have enough racks, you can use a rope to tie two supports.
    • Set up one or several tents (they will be handy in case of incremental weather).
    • Consider roping off the yard sale area, so no one will start shopping until you’re ready.
  4. Selling Items.
    • Have a table and chair for a checkout stand.
    • Be very attentive with your money!
    • Wear an apron with many pockets to hold the change.
    • Use a calculator for totaling item prices.
    • Keep a pen and paper handy to make necessary records about items sold and available.
    • Have plastic bags, packing material and tape available to bag sold items for your buyers.
    • Be ready to negotiate with shoppers and offer additional discounts.
  5. Safety.
    • Avoid selling anything that is dangerous (for example, chemical products).
    • Use special labels that warn shoppers about potential danger ...
